Sizes vary
Bed sizes and mattresses were not as crucial over a century ago. Beds of any size might be used, with homemade mattresses or feather beds on top. The bed was likewise substantially lower in height. The production of beds began in the 1980s, with the introduction of conventional full or double sized beds. They had a diameter of 72 inches by 52 inches. Antique traders referred to beds that were older and smaller than ordinary double-sized beds as “three-quarter” beds. Their sizes, on the other hand, were distinct and varied. Conversions as a Solution to the Problem

This problem can be solved by using thinner mattresses and springs. Try measuring a point from the steel railing up to the appropriate length before obtaining a new mattress.
