Fans of first-person horror games will be able to enjoy Ebb Software’s Scorn when it is released on October 31, just in time for Halloween. This game is the newest in the first-person horror genre. Players are tasked with guiding a lone survivor through a terrible environment in order to complete the game, which takes place in a hellish setting that combines elements of both body horror and mechanical nightmares.
But before horror game lovers decide to plunge into this new game to get them stoked for the Halloween season, they should know that there are plenty of previous first-person entries in the category that have become some of the finest of all time. They have all gone on to become cherished memories for frightening anybody who dared to take up the controller, whether they were reimaginings of famous franchises or fan favorites.
10/10. Doom 3
With the release of Doom 3, Software made the first effort to rekindle interest in the Doom series, which Bethesda would later follow up by reviving and turning into a blockbuster success. The game takes place in the future on Mars, and players have to fend against demons who have come via a gateway from Hell in order to reach Earth.
Although a lot of people may favor more recent entries, Doom 3 made an effort to steer the game in a more horror-oriented direction, which turned out to be a winning strategy in 2004. The fact that this iteration of the series decided to go in this particular path had a significant influence on the industry as a whole since it was followed up by other first-person shooter horror games that were commercially successful throughout that generation of games and platforms.
9/10. F.E.A.R
Those who have played the first-person shooter horror trilogy known as F.E.A.R. on a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 may recall it. After a research experiment goes awry, the first game in the series introduces players to Point Man, who is the newest member of First Encounter Assault Recon. Players find themselves in a situation in which they must contend with ghostly visions.
F.E.A.R stood out during a console generation that filled with third-person and first-person shooters by virtue of its excellent artificial intelligence for the enemy troops, as well as the look and sound design that made the scares that much more intense. It’s possible that the sequels attempted to shake up the formula in some way, but the original game is still considered to be among the finest first-person shooters and horror games.
8/10. Alien: Isolation
Numerous film buffs believe Aliens to be one of the best sequels of all time, with ardent followers to this day. Alien: Isolation, a 2014 video game in which Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen Ripley, searches for her mother on an abandoned space station, seems to pose a challenge to the concept of the ideal sequel.
Using art and design from the first two films, the developers developed an unsettling exploration station that made even more frightening by the Xenomorph’s pursuit of Amanda Ripley. In contrast to earlier Alien games, however, the absence of firearms and emphasis on stealth made it a really horrifying experience, as players forced to evade and hide from the inexorable killing machine.
7/10. Condemned 2: Bloodshot
Monolith Productions, the same company that produced the F.E.A.R. series, responsible for another FPS horror game called Condemned. Which released as a console exclusive on the Xbox 360. Fans and beginners alike could enjoy the three-year-later sequel on both the PS3 and Xbox 360, which saw Ethan Thomas face the demons that haunted him in the original game.
With the inclusion of additional environmental interactions and a twisted tale. It became an unnerving shooter unlike anything else seen before, as players questioned Ethan’s battle with alcoholism. Most reviews commended it for telling the tale. Via the game’s different interactions and cutscenes, which made this a scarier sequel.
6/10. The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners
Almost everyone has heard of or liked one of the numerous comic books, video games, and television episodes based on the iconic zombie property, The Walking Dead. None of the games, however, have successfully immersed players in the post-apocalyptic environment like The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, one of the scariest virtual reality games for the PSVR and Oculus Rift.
Designed particularly for VR makes this game one of the most immersive experiences, as players must interact and scour the surroundings for supplies while being aware that zombies or people may come at any time. And having these lethal interactions prevalent throughout the game not only made it exciting but also unnerving.
5/10. Amnesia: The Dark Descent
The Amnesia series, including Amnesia: Rebirth, is among the most terrifying horror games. According to Metacritic, the first game in the series has the highest rating in the series. And is one of the best stealth horror games.
Its use of light sources to keep the protagonist Daniel calm. While monsters roamed a castle made it stand out in horror. It was one of the games that used the first-person perspective well without relying on firearms.
4/10. Outlast
Before grabbing their controllers and keyboards for The Outlast Trials. Gamers may want to experience the original game, which scared many. In a mental hospital, journalist Miles Upshur investigates prisoner experiments.
Equipped with a camcorder, it became a prominent gameplay element as Miles could watch patients wandering the hallways. With his night vision option, which would drain the battery as it was used. Putting the player in several such circumstances makes the game creepy. And frightening in a way that only a few games have been able to achieve previously.
3/10. Five Nights At Freddy’s
Scott Cawthon created the original Five Nights at Freddy’s, which became a viral sensation once famous streamers found it. Its success led to its rapid transformation into a series that not only presented some of the scariest animatronics ever created. But also made it accessible on a number of platforms.
As the player assumes the role of a vulnerable security guard, he or she gradually encircled by mechanical creatures. That seem to haunted and terrible, so generating excruciating suspense. The franchise may have attempted to incorporate new concepts. But the original has withstood the test of time and should not overlooked by anyone seeking a non-violent first-person shooter.
2/10. P.T
It may have just shown to be a teaser to announce the return of Silent Hill. But it was without a doubt one of the scariest and most powerful demos ever made. The objective of the game, which takes place in a home, is to escape. While haunted by strange and unpleasant aural and visual cues.
Despite the brief playing and the fact that the game could not downloaded. Due to the contentious cancellation of the project by Konami. It became a renowned horror title in its own right. It demonstrated that not only was Hideo Kojima capable of delivering a novel interactive experience. But also a novel game in the recognized genre, for which 2014 anticipated by many.
1/10. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

And an entirely new environment, serving as a revitalizing addition to a series that had become more action-oriented. While searching for his wife, Ethan Winters becomes entangled. With a dangerous family plagued with a strange illness in their dilapidated home.
It was one of the most memorable games of 2017. Since it offered a large number of shocks not seen in a Resident Evil game in a long time. Regardless of whether the game played in virtual reality or not. It may have followed by Resident Evil Village, which introduced additional otherworldly dangers. But the Baker family was a really terrifying force that still causes players to flinch to this day.
