Later, Chandran performed penance and prayed to the Lord of this place to lift his curse. After the holy bath in the tank, he was free from his curse.
There is another legend related to Vishnu and Laxmi during the churning of the ocean. Goddess Laxmi appeared during the churning process, but she was too shy to look at Lord Vishnu. She then went to Thirukannamangai and performed penance as she wanted Vishnu for marriage. Hence, the deity in this temple is known as Perum Purak katal as he left his place to marry Laxmi. The place where Laxmi performed the penance is known as Lakshmi Vanam.
There is a tank in the temple, and people believe that its water originated from the supply of Brahma after worshipping Vishnu.

The History Behind The Names
Goddess Mahalaxmi is known here as “Abishegavalli.” This is because the Goddess did penance in the Mandapam of this temple. She then took a bath in the pushkarani and got merged with Perumal. The place of her meditation is called “Lakshmi Vanam.” There is a beehive where the bees are believed to be the sages and yogis. When these entities could not leave the Lord, they converted themselves into the bees to stay with the Lord.
The name Bhaktaraavi Perumal comes from the concept of Jeevatma, our soul, and Paramathma, God. God Bhaktavatsala Perumal transformed his soul and gave the Jeevatma the space to merge with him.
Lord Krishna always had the Gobikasthree, the women of Gokulam. However, this place is named after Kannan’s wife, Thiru Kanna Mangai, because Mahalaxmi performed penance here.
Festivals
Many festivals are celebrated here, such as the 10 days festival following Chitra Poornima day in April – May. This festival is the primary one among all and is celebrated with fervor. Vaikunda Ekadesi is also the day that is celebrated without missing. There is a belief that devotees who stay here at night attain Mukti after their death and attain the abode of Vishnu.
