The Kerala High Court has instructed the competent authority (CEE) to extend the option for candidates to opt for NRI quota by 10 days. The courts observed that while the results of the NEET exam have not been declared, the option for students to apply for NRI quota should not be withheld. The petition was filed by aspirants who could no longer apply for NRI quota for Kerala MBBS admissions in the upcoming year (2022-2023).
The CEE submitted a statement before the court stating that extending the option to apply for the NRI quota would lead to delays in the verification process. The courts however dismissed the argument since the results of the underlying exam for admissions (NEET) were still pending and that students should not be constraint / inconvenienced in the application process. The Kerala HC has granted 10 more days (till 15th August) for candidates to modify their nationality option on the online portal. The bench also clarified that the benefit of the quota will only be granted to the petitioners based on adequate verification of the eligibility criteria.
The NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) results are awaited anytime now and the counselling process for MBBS and BDS admissions is set to start. Candidates should keep track of the latest updates on the official website: https:neet.nta.nic.in. The NEET is a national level entrance exam for medical courses in India, this year’s exam saw more than 18 lakh applicants and was conducted on 17th July 2022
