Summer is here and all we can think about is when we will be able to take a dip and spend as much time as possible in the sea. On the other hand, it is understood that we are also concerned with our body and how to exercise it without shedding tons of sweat with lifeguard recertification.
How would you feel if we told you that swimming is a form of exercise that will not only help you lose weight but also work out every muscle in your body without putting any pressure on your joints?
According to the American Heart Association , 30-60 minutes of swimming, 4-6 days a week, can help anyone lose weight and reduce the risks of developing diabetes and heart problems.
Unlike running and cycling which are aerobic forms of exercise, swimming offers a more comprehensive workout. The muscles of the lower and upper part of the body, the trunk and the back are exercised while at the same time you do aerobic exercise. Also, in addition to all this, swimming helps to strengthen the heart and lungs and is very good for people who have problems with their joints and do not want to strain their knees, hips or back (these people cannot example to exercise by running or cycling).
How to lose weight by swimming…
By combining swimming with a healthy and balanced diet, it goes without saying that you can lose weight. With this as your goal you can swim for 60 minutes a day, 3-5 days a week either in the sea or in a pool to get the results you want. If you are new to swimming and don’t know many things, you can start in a pool with a coach next to you who will give you the basics to continue on your own, if you want. The key is to start slowly and gradually increase the duration and intensity of your swim.
How many calories do you burn swimming…
Did you know that one hour of swimming can help you burn around 500 calories (or even more – depending on how much intensity you put into your training)? Don’t even think about it! Now that it’s summer and the sun is getting hotter, surely working out in the cool water of the pool sounds like an oasis and much better than going to a park and going for a run. Let alone that with running you will burn around 400 calories in the same time.
Why do you burn so many calories swimming…
Because water is 800 times denser than air, the exercise you do in it is much more intense. On the other hand, the resistance of the water makes your every movement in it more difficult and even more effective.
Warning! The University of Florida after a study it did found that many people after swimming gain weight instead of losing it. This is because after contact with water the appetite opens up. So, be careful not to get unwanted results!
