If you want to change your lock screen on Windows 8.1, there are many ways to do it. Changing the lock screen can be done by either adjusting the background image, setting a timeout, or adding a customized app or notification. Alternatively, you can disable the lock screen altogether.
Change lock screen background
If you want to change the background of the lock screen on your Windows 8.1 PC, you can use a registry key. It is not necessary to reinstall the operating system. You can change the background image by enabling a feature called Lock Screen Slideshow. This feature will change the background image of the lock screen every time you sign in to your computer.
Changing the lock screen background is simple and can be done in two ways. The first method involves changing the permissions for the Screen directory, and the second method does not require editing the Screen directory. The first method requires changing the Screen permissions, so you will need to clear the LockScreen cache directory.
Another option is to change the lock screen background by using a photo. A snapshot can be taken of the preview lock screen. This allows you to change the background image and remove parts of it using a photo editing program. You can also add a slideshow to the lock screen.
Change lock screen timeout
To change the timeout of your Windows 8.1 lock screen, open the Control Panel and select the small or large icons view. Then navigate to Display and Power Options and select the setting called Console lock display off timeout. Once you’ve made the change to the registry, you can now change the timeout in minutes. The default value is one minute, but you can change it to any number you choose.
If you’re not comfortable changing this default behavior, you can try changing the timeout manually. You can also change the timeout in Windows 8 by choosing Never. Just make sure you’re logged into the Windows 8 system before you try to modify the Registry. It will open the Registry Editor and you can now change the timeout.
The lock screen is the background image that displays when the computer is locked. To unlock it, you’ll have to click or tap the lock screen icon. Normally, the lock screen turns off after a minute, but you can increase the timeout. If you don’t mind the timeout, you can even set the PC to never turn off the monitor.
Customize lock screen apps
The new lock screen features in Windows 8.1 make it possible to customize the appearance of the screen. To do this, go to Settings>Personalize>Lock Screen. From there, choose which apps you want to show on the screen when you lock your PC. You can also choose whether you want to show detailed or quick status information from those apps.
The new Lock Screen app settings page will allow you to add or remove widgets. By default, you can add Mail, Calendar, and Alarm to the Lock Screen. You can also add more by clicking the “+” button in the settings menu. By using this option, you can add a new calendar app to your lock screen, or add a Skype caller to it.
In Windows 8.1, you can customize the appearance of these apps in two ways. You can change their icons or change the order they appear. Changing the order of the icons will allow you to choose the apps you want to see. If you don’t like what you see, you can also remove any apps that aren’t working for you.
Customize lock screen notifications
If you’re not happy with the way lock screen notifications are displayed on your Windows 8.1 PC, you can disable them. To do this, go to the PC Settings app and select Personalize. There, you’ll find the Lock screen apps category. You can choose which apps appear on the lock screen, and whether they show quick or detailed information. To make notifications appear only when you need them, disable them.
The Lock Screen can also show the status messages from various apps. Some apps can display detailed information, such as when a friend sends you a text message. However, you can only add certain apps to the lock screen display at once. You can also add more apps later, as more are installed on your PC.
If you want to customize the lock screen notifications, you can choose a background image and set up a slide show. This way, you can see the weather, incoming messages, and social updates without having to unlock your PC. You can also choose to show notifications for the apps you use most, such as Facebook and Twitter.
