For many move bumper, this problem is a burning question. For others, it hasn’t even come out yet. It all depends on what RV you get into and what RV you want to get into.
For example, I’ve been towing travel trailers for years. What will be my next RV? I am going to buy a fifth wheel toy hauler. Why? I want a toy mover because I can use it flexibly. I want the fifth wheel version because there is no floor plan on the bumper bridge. But, it’s just me. This article is about what you want.
Bumper Paint
By the way, the descriptive terms you’ll hear can be confusing. The fifth round is the fifth round. This is what people say. Others, on the other hand, don’t have standard terminology. You’ll hear people refer to them as “move bumper,” “bumper pulls,” “both types,” or some other term. In this article, I’ll use the term “bumper bridge” because it best describes the hitch location.
Now that we understand these terms, let’s look at the main differences between the two. The most obvious difference is where the trailer is attached to the vehicle. The bumper-pulling barrier is of course on or near the rear bumper of the tractor. The fifth wheel hitch is located in the truck chassis above the rear axle.
How to Paint a Car Bumper Like a Pro
The first thing to be clear is that you won’t be using your car to tow a fifth-wheel trailer. A truck is required at this obstacle point. Bumper tow trailers can be towed by car or truck.
There is another factor about fifth-wheel trailers that require the use of the truck as a tractor. The fifth wheel frame is designed to be heavier than the bumper trailer needs. The extra weight requires power that only a truck can provide.
Use Bumper Boards to Secure Stakes to Fences
So why do people choose one of them? One reason is the size of the unit. The longer the trailer, the more likely it will be designed as a fifth wheel. The smaller it is, the more likely it is a bumper-pull design.
The main issue here is the stability of the trailer while being towed. The pivot point (hitch) of a bumper tractor-trailer is located a few feet behind the tractor’s axle. This can cause the trailer to gain leverage over the truck. Taller units need a good anti-sway hitch to control trucks and trailers if crosswinds are encountered.
The axle of the fifth wheel hitch is above the axle of the truck. If a gust of wind hits, the trailer cannot overtake the truck. This is the main reason why long trailers are fifth-wheel units.
Another factor of choice is cost. Fifth-wheel units tend to be more expensive than bumper trailers of the same size. That’s why most of the smaller, cheaper units are bumper bridges. They are lighter and less expensive to produce.

The amount of living space for every foot of space that a trailer takes up on the road or campground makes a big difference. A 30ft long bumper trailer will give you 25-26ft of living space. The remaining length is the tongue sticking out from the front of the trailer. As for the overall length of the truck and trailer, the entire 30 feet is added to the length of the truck.
The fifth round uses length more efficiently. In most cases, a 30-foot fifth wheel gives you about 30 feet of living space. Because the hitch is above the rear axle of the truck, the number of trailers hooked behind the truck will be 24-25 feet. The combined length of the truck and trailer will be 8-10 feet shorter for the same living space.
Most fifth-wheel trailers require at least a 3/4 ton truck as a tractor. Most bumper pulls can be safely handled by a 1/2-ton truck. The main reason for this is the weight on the hook.
Crib Bumper Safety Tips
Most bumper tow trailers are designed to put about 10% of the total weight on the tow ball. Place this weight on an obstacle 3-4 feet behind the axle as a lever to lift the front of the truck. As trailer sizes become medium or large, a good weight balance hitch becomes extremely important.
The fifth-wheel trailer is designed to put 15% of the total weight on the hitch pin on top of the truck axle. That amount of weight itself requires a heavy truck.
Bumper Cars Is a Game
So where does this get you? If you already own a 3/4 ton or larger truck, your options are extensive. It comes down to what is best for your floor plan and price range.
On the other hand, if you have a car or a small pickup truck, you’re pretty much limited to a small bumper trailer. Most cars and small pickups are limited to trailers weighing 3,500 pounds or less. Lighted-up trailers don’t offer much material comfort. At the same time, they provide an inexpensive entry point.
