Crown of the British Empire
The crown of the British Empire is more commonly used, and the Queen will wear it to attend the opening of Parliament every year.
The crown was designed by King George IV in 1937. The current monarch Queen Victoria has a more exquisite replica. The jewels on the crown are from George I’s State Crown. In order to adapt to the head shape of different monarchs, the crown of the British Empire will be adjusted for the new monarch every time, and the last time is for Elizabeth II. The crown body is made of gold, silver and platinum, with 2868 diamonds, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds, 269 pearls and 4 rubies.
The largest gem on the crown is Cullinan II, which weighs 317 carats and is also known as the African Star II. This is the second largest stone cut from the famous Curinan diamond, which is the largest original diamond in history. The 3106 carat original diamond was sent to Amsterdam, the most authoritative city for diamond carving at that time, and was cut by the famous craftsman Jo Aschar. The largest diamond from the Curinan diamonds is set on the scepter of the British king.
The second main stone on the crown is the Black Prince Ruby, which weighs 170 carats. It is said that in the Middle Ages, the Black Prince Ruby was worn as a pendant. Henry V also wore this ruby in the Battle of Argincourt.
There are also four pear shaped pearls on the crown, which were handed down from the earrings of Queen Elizabeth I. It is said that Catherine De Medici gave these pearls to her daughter-in-law Queen Mary. The Virgin Queen apparently got them after ordering the execution of Mary.
