This year’s NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) saw several irregularities / malpractices come to light. From impersonation rackets to harassment at exam centres, the operational execution of the exam was nowhere close to the expectation of the candidates. Many students have started demanding that the NTA (National Testing Agency) reconduct the exam.
Key Concerns Related To The NEET UG 2022
- Several cases of malpractices were covered on exam day. More than 10 people were arrested for fraudulently impersonating candidates and taking the exam on their behalf
- There was a reported case of harassment in Kollam where female students were made to forcefully strip in the name of checking / frisking
- A Jaipur based centre provided wrong papers to candidates (a re-exam is being conducted at the same centre)
- Several students reported discrepancies in the exam paper (e.g., the same paper had different questions for different candidates)
- There were cases of students using electronic gadgets for cheating during the exam
The NTA is yet to release any statement clarifying these issues and is expected to publish the official answer key anytime now (tentatively by 31st July). These concerns come after many months of student campaigns which were aimed at delaying the exam.
The NEET is a national level entrance exam for admissions into MBBS and BDS courses. This year’s exam was held on 17th July 2022 and saw more than 18 lakh applicants.
