The Nance Appliance is an accessory worn over your teeth at night that you can wear to straighten your teeth quickly and easily in just three to six months. It’s also known as the early retainer, because it can be used to help fix crooked teeth or misaligned bites before they become more of a problem and harder to treat using traditional braces. In this article, we’ll go over what the Nance Appliance looks like, how it works, and the types of patients who typically use it in order to get straight teeth without having to wear traditional braces all day long.
The goal of this technique
Many people find that they can get a better night’s sleep with their lower lingual holding arch in place. There are several reasons for this, but it is especially helpful if you grind your teeth (brux) during sleep or wear upper/lower removable appliances at night. When worn to bed, it holds your lower jaw in a forward position and keeps your mouth closed. This allows all jaw-closing muscles to rest, including those of mastication (chewing). Removable oral appliances are wonderful devices and many people who wear them wake up refreshed and rested.
What you need to start
in order to use a lower lingual holding arch, you will need a retainer, a note from your dentist, and an impression kit. Retainers are generally made of clear plastic or wire. You should also be wearing elastics (rubber bands) every night anyway in order to keep your teeth straight and healthy. In order to get an impression kit and start working with your dentist on getting a retainer designed specifically for you and your mouth, you need to make an appointment at your local dental office. When you do go in, ask about getting started with orthodontic treatment!
Instructions on how to use it
Lower Lingual Holding Arch (LLHA) is an appliance used to treat snoring, nasal breathing and mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea. It works by stabilizing and repositioning your lower jaw while you sleep. It’s less invasive than some of other surgical techniques, and it can be more comfortable because it’s removable at night. If you think LLHA could help with your apnea or other oral issues.
How long should I use it?
Generally, about three months. Studies indicate that you can retain up to 50% of your new smile as a result of using an nance appliance. Using it longer is definitely worth it, but every patient is different. If you’re trying to achieve tooth straightening and full smile makeover, then stick with it! But if you just want your teeth straightened without having to wear. An annoying retainer in your mouth 24/7 (which many patients actually end up doing). Then you should use our technique for 3 months and see how much progress you’ve made before deciding whether or not to continue treatment.
Short-term side effects
In a large majority of cases, there are short-term side effects when receiving orthodontic treatment. Usually, your face and teeth will feel sore or tender at some point while getting braces. This soreness is usually relieved by taking an over-the-counter pain reliever, like acetaminophen or ibuprofen. While certain drugs may interact negatively with orthodontic brackets and wires, these interactions are rare in normal doses; discuss any specific concerns with your dentist before adding a new medication to your routine. Also keep in mind that smoking increases sensitivity to these types of pain relievers; if you smoke, ask your dentist whether you should delay treatment until you can stop smoking completely.
